Psoriasis Severity: What is a PASI Score?

Ever wonder how severe your psoriasis is? The Psoriasis Area Severity Index, also known as PASI, is a tool that a healthcare professional can use to measure it for you.

“Calculating the PASI score before, during, and after a treatment period can help you and your healthcare provider decide how effective your psoriasis treatment is.”

The PASI score is based on:

  • 1. The extent of affected body surface area on the:
    • head & neck
    • upper extremities
    • trunk
    • lower extremities
  • 2. The degree of severity of:
    • redness
    • thickness
    • scaling

Calculating the PASI score before, during, and after a treatment period can help you and your healthcare provider decide how effective your psoriasis treatment is and whether you need to make a switch.

So, for example, you can aim for a 50%, 75%, 90% or 100% improvement in your psoriasis symptoms – a reduction of PASI75, PASI90, or PASI100.

Be mindful of your PASI score and know there are many treatments that can help and lifestyle changes can also make a difference.
